Bok Tower Gardens, a National Historic Landmark celebrating its 91st anniversary, is looking to fill the position of Director of Facilities and Operations. This Olmsted designed garden and wildlife sanctuary is the campus for numerous historic buildings, visitor exhibit hall, cafe and shop, support buildings, offices, greenhouses, and a landmark 208ft tall carillon tower. The Director manages a department of 9 staff in maintenance and housekeeping. The ideal candidate is hands-on and can lead the department strategically and tactically. The individual in this position is responsible for maintenance management, record keeping, planning and budgeting, scheduling and supervision, contracted services, event set up, and ensuring the physical operation of the organization meets budgetary and strategic objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Plan and coordinate all installations (telecommunications, heat, electricity, wells, etc.) and refurbishments.
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure to meet health and safety standards.
  • Inspect buildings' structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.
  • Review utility consumption and strive to minimize costs.
  • Supervise all facilities staff (custodians, technicians, etc.) and external contractors.
  • Control activities like campus safety, waste disposal, building security, etc.
  • Handle service contracts.
  • Keep department budget, building and equipment inventory, construction/design plans, non-financial records.
  • Perform analysis and forecasting for budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Computer Skills to include knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), or similar program.
  • Manages and reviews service contracts.
  • Forecasts, allocates, and supervises the financial and physical resources of the facility management.
  • Well-versed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eye for detail and a quest to learn.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Good analytical/critical thinking.
  • Forecasts, allocates, and supervises the financial and physical resources of the facility management.

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field
  • 5 -10 years in related positions
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFM) will be an advantage
